Don’t know where really to start so I’ll just jump right in with no pyro or bally-hoo.
If everything goes the way I’m planning, I’m not going to be around these parts much longer. I’m getting ready to go into a field of work where my free time will be limited more than what it is now. The bright-side of things is that my family will be supported and at the end of the day, that’s what matters. I limit my time here to weekends as is, but I’m not sure if I’ll even be able to do that anymore.
Through everything, I kept Nintendroid running for 12 years and I always kept a presence here through thick and thin no matter what was going on in my life, good or bad. I’m in my mid 30s now, I have a family, and that means school functions, holidays, spending more time outdoors. At the end of the day, I’m finding myself coming here less and less.
Year after year, so many bloggers that got me on Tumblr in the first place have gone on. I look at my feed and it’s a ghost town these days. The first generation of Tumblr is aging out after over a decade here. A big part of it is just simply growing into adults with changing priorities.
While I have nothing but gratitude and love for Tumblr as a platform, I can’t help but to somewhat point the finger at them for not doing enough to keep the first gen folks here. I log on and see more and more ads, more merch hawking, aggressive alerts that my ad-blocker needs turned off (which I always do). At one time, they were going to share ad revenue with us and then pushed it to the side. To compensate they gave us the “tip” feature to pass the buck onto other bloggers.
There are a lot of content creators that got their start here and brought eyes to Tumblr. When the site was in it’s prime, Tumblr should’ve given us a partnership option similar to Youtube and TikTok. If we could be compensated for the content we create, then we’re less likely going to leave. It would’ve meant more content, and more users.
If that sounds bitter, it’s not meant to be. I’ll always love it here, but I can’t justify spending an hour, two hours doing stuff for the blog when I could be playing a game with my kids or whatever else.
I’ll always be here, but expect it to be more few and far between. I love you all who have hung with me over the years, God bless you and yours and take care of yourselves.
